Brands of HDD's

CHKR

I personally love Western Digital when it comes to HDD.

If its for media storage like music/video id go with a Blue/Green.

If its for games go with a Black.

If its for 24/7 on time get Red.

There's some graph out there that says some brand is better than some other one. In reality though, you won't notice the difference, especially if you're booting off an SSD and using the HDD as mass storage for files and games. Get what's cheapest.

And do you see your green drives over there?

That doesn't mean that they no longer exist or are discontinued (no longer available or produced)

There is a difference between no longer exist...and discontinued.

No Longer Exist means...it has been completely removed from this timeline/world/existence and you can't physically find one

Discontinued means it is no longer made but exist somewhere.

So I think you meant discontinued, because I very sure I can find a Caviar Green to buy on Amazon, Newegg, NCIX, Microcenter, etc.

Which brand of HDD should i get?

I heard that western digital ones with 7200rpm are pretty good, if not, what else?

Another thing to look at is how many platters there are, although that's kind of tough to find.  The fewer platters, the faster it will be.  Don't worry about cache size (unless it's under 8MB, which it never is), or which SATA interface it is, since even the fastest HDD won't utilize all of SATA-I bandwidth.

As for brand, I'm more partial to WD, but Toshiba makes good ones as well.  I'd suggest staying away from Seagate.  They seem to be more hit-and-miss.

I vaguely remember seeing a Linus video hard drive speeds, although I could be mistaken.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!
