Not worth it to invest into Kaby Lake over Skylake unless you have the mindset where you need the latest and greatest. $20 for practically zero performance gain isn't worth it.

Here's a build with two GTX 1080s for 4K Ultra gaming. Either that or get a Titan XP and watercool it with a bracket and an AIO liquid cooler.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

If you're starting from scratch, may as well go Kaby honestly--this is from someone with a 6700K that isn't impressed with this gen. For only $20, may as well to get specific hardware decoding.

You mean the $20 tax just to get '4K Netflix streaming'? Come on, I doubt OP is going to be worrying about that.

The temptation of having the latest product is understandable but there's no tangible reason to have Kaby Lake over Skylake.

Hell its 20 dollars people spend over 100 dollars more just to get dominator platinum ram which has no gain besides looks and imo I don't like the look of dominator platinum I'll stick to painting my ram I haven't looked at his parts but maybe he can spend 20 dollars elsewhere but Inwould go with kabylake

EDIT: If it is the build above with the two zotac 1080s go with a better psu

The main reason actually is because of the motherboard. The Skylake build I suggested is $50-ish cheaper than a Kaby Lake one, purely because of the fact that the CPU and motherboard (the cheapest Z270 mobo with SLI support for the two GTX 1080s is $25 more expensive than the cheapest Z170 mobo with SLI support) costs more.

Perhaps it's a subjective matter but I'm not one to pay up $50 for no tangible gain.

And have you only chosen the processor atm? Or have you setteled on other components as well?

Well honestly I'm still doubtful abt the processor as I'm thinking abt kaby Lake too, so I've not selectively picked any part just yet. I'm looking for something ultra 4k gaming pc and I don't want to buy something too much that it'll just go to waste and I won't get to use those features.

I can see u r suggesting a titan card but is it better than the 1080 in terms of gaming? And if so can it be of any use for future expansions?

Yes the titan is better than the GTX 1080, and its definitely for 4k gaming, but I don't think it'll leave room for a monitor.

I can see that u've provided with two 1080 sli s but i would prefer a single graphics card and would get a second one in the future. But is it worth buying two gtx 1080s for sli? (what would I suggest, getting a single card and buying the second one in the future or getting the two sli cards now itself?)

Guys,

Abt the kaby Lake, I was just wondering as I'm building a new pc, a $20 increase is not a big difference in comparison to the current sky lake so it's not abt having the latest and greatest, it's all abt performance of the pc.

If you think having a skylake is well and good plz suggest it.

Thanks✌️

I see, but according to ncix tech tips video, it seems the overclocking margin of the 7700k and 6700k is significantly big with 7700k reaching upto 5 ghz of clock speed . So if it relates to performance I might look into kaby Lake or I would just go with skylake otherwise.

The only card that's better than the GTX 1080 is the Titan XP... which is nearly double the price.

My advice is to wait for AMD's VEGA and see what that brings to the table. Hopefully it encourages NVIDIA to release the rumoured GTX 1080Ti as well.

Well I need a pc now for some of my college related work and I don't have one that powerful enough to run CAD and other 3D modeling softwares so I want to build one as soon as possible. One thing that'll make me decide the graphic card is if the performance difference is big in comparison to the titan XP and 1080. I would go with the titan XP.
