With XMP it ahould be able to. Your motherboard supports it so its worth trying.

I just installed 16gb ( 2x 8Gb) of ram that is meant to be running at 2400mhz , i open speccy to check everything is okay and its only hitting 666 , my other ram was 8gb of 1600mhz and that appeared on speccy as 800mhz , so whats going wrong? i assume its to do with the settings , as when booted first it asked about settings and it gave me the option to use defalts or to set my own , i clicked to set my own to see what i needed to do then realised i had no clue , so i saved and exited out of the bios , assuming that it would automatically go to default. if this is the case how do i fix it ? and if not whats the issue?

Whats your motherboard and CPU?

1600mhz reading as 800 is normal, due to the memory being DDR (double data rate) 2400 reading at 666 isn't normal though, it should read at 1200.

The 4790k can only support RAM up to 1600mhz, it'll be running at 1333(666 as read on the programs) because its clocked itself down to be able to work.

Should be able to get it to work at higher than 1600 if you enable XMP in the bios.

With XMP it ahould be able to. Your motherboard supports it so its worth trying.
