I don't really know where to post this thread so i guess i'll post it here.
Not really worried about losing current progress i made while making the greatest ever meme. I heard that when you get a sudden power loss it can fry numerous components?
Is that true? Is getting a UPS worth it if your computer costs 1000+ USD? What makes a good UPS? How much should you spend on a good UPS? Has anyone gotten their system fried by sudden power loss, or data corrupted or something like that?
Thanks in advance guys :)

As long as you have a good PSU you should be alright I'd imagine.

If you do want to get a UPS there's this one here I plan on getting at some point, it being one Paul's Hardware showed off in some video awhile ago http://amzn.to/2hNBU8z

If you find that your area suffers from brownouts and other disturbances, it may help you out by allowing a more stable load. Otherwise, no you don't need one.

Having said that, it never hurts to have a good UPS attached to your system.

Sudden power loss shouldn't fry components, but a power surge can if your PSU doesn't have adequate surge protection.

Unless you're often working with data that you cannot afford to have lost of corrupted, a UPS isn't necessary for most. A good surge protector and good quality PSU is a more worthwhile investment and often much cheaper.

Its true that your hardware can get fried, however I've never experienced it. However, when i got a system that cost a whole lot of money, i got a UPS just to be on the safe side, and all my servers also have UPS's just to be safe and so that they can shut down properly when they loose power. It totally depends on if you want to risk having your computer fried or not. Personally, I would invest in a UPS.

As for model, I recommend and APC smart UPS

But it totally depends on how often your power goes out and if you want to risk it (TBH don't really need to worry about frying hardware, just have to worry about windows corrupting from improper shutdowns, as that happened to me)

I like Computer Stuffs. Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it in again? Automation Expert (Bots, scripts, etc)! Add me on Xbox Live: JollyPlanet449 And on Steam!: Baxtmann Wanshow.tips is a cool place too

A power loss will not fry components, and since you said you don't mind losing whatever you're working on, a UPS probably isn't necessary. A good surge protector will do the trick for power inconsistencies. However, it is a good safeguard and extra safety measure so you don't lose those precious components. You should make sure that the UPS has enough battery capacity to run what you plan to have plugged into it for a reasonable amount of time so they can all have time to shut down correctly, save work, etc. You also just want to make sure it has the "creature comforts" you may want as well, like enough outlets, ethernet, and other things of the sorts. You can watch this video here to learn more about what UPS to buy as well.

Nah, happens maybe once in 2-3 months or maybe even less than that.

It's more so to protect your data from sudden power loss and ensure your devices get good quality power. If you have problems with either in your area it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a unit, the main thing that kills components or mainly the PSU which takes the first hit is power surges.

I think it might be "a UPS". THough UPS starts with a vowel, its pronounced "You-Pee-Ess", so not starting with a vowel.

I would first check where your PSU lies on the PSU Tier list. In general, anything on Tier 3 and up will have at least decent surge protection. PSUs that are well designed (and not just made to meet 80+ efficiency standards) will often have protection in place to combat power surges or at least try to ensure the PSU takes the brunt of it, basically sacrificing itself to keep other components from being damaged.
