I have a bunch of things...

  • A bunch of Texas instruments MS430 kits
  • a bunch of ardiunos
  • Lots of arduino addons

Can I make a DAC or something similar with them??

no, but you can build your own o2 dac and amp, you can even solder it together

I would like to build it all DIY

There are no good DIY DAC's that are cheap.

Like, not a kit. And I don't really ned it to be amazing as it is just for fun

I wouldn't really waste your time on a DAC. They're almost all SMD components and really hard to solder. Anything that's cheap won't be worth it.

I'm pretty sure you can make the o2 amp and dac yourself as it's open source

They are, but ODAC's are made in a factory. Unless you have an SMD assembly line you can't build them yourself.

Looks like I will just make a Amp first and then when I have the money get a nice pair of headphones and dac

I don't think you are going to build a dac or amp out of dev kits.

There's a ton of work to design and build a full dac.

It's taken me a while to actually get the motivation to build one because every dac i've seen has been smd, which happens to be a pain in the butt to solder.

if you really want to build one.

There's a few options here

http://beezar.com/catalog/index.php

I built the skeletonDAC, it works nicely, but don't expect it to drive headphones. It really needs an amp.

A review will be out fairly soon, along with an o2 review.

Will work for electronic components and parts

I wouldn't bother, as a project you might be better of making network controlled monitors, locks and lighting for your house. Esp. if you have multiple arduinos lying around.

I don't have a link, I just thought it up.  Is there a list of projects or forums on the arduino site you can search?

The best projects are the ones you create. Why copy someone else's flickering light design when you can invent your own? That's true DiY.

To make one sound good you need an engineering degree with plenty of experience. Something schiit doesn't have.

I thought we were talking about projects other than DACs and amps, but I really meant enclosures more than an actual circuit any ways. That free-form amp some dude encased in clear acrylic was a pretty sweet concept, less because of the amp and more because no one thought of doing it before.
