does your cpu have to support usb 3.0 for the usb 3.0 ports to work on your motherboard

I know this is probably a dumb question, but I saw something online about my CPU's generation(4820K ivy bridge E), not having native USB 3.0 support, and I thought that might have been the reason why my usb 3.0 ports do not work on my computer. Though I did not know CPU's had anything to do with USB version support, I though that was all based on the motherboard.

USB support is handled by the chipset. If the motherboard has USB 3.0 ports, odds are it has a compatible chipset or an additional controller (that's why some AMD motherboards have USB 3.0)

 

tl;dr: if there's ports, they should work regardless of CPU

It should work no matter what CPU. USB is all managed by the motherboard chipset.
