1080p vs 1440p monitor

get the 1440p, it offers a crisper image and that monitor has gsync and 165hz, similar to my monitor only mine is 144hz, i noticed a massive improvement

Hi all,

I'm trying to decide on buying a 1080p or 1440p display. When buying a 1080p display I'd still downsample from 1440p anyway, or would a native 1440p screen be better?

Rightnow I'm using my TV (1080p) also downsampling from 1440p and I'm very happy with how it looks on there.

The main reason I'm still thinking of buying a 1080p screen is because the downsampling virtually removes all jaggies. Without the need of aggressive AA, FXAA seems to be find then.

So the main question here is will a 1440p screen with FXAA still have the same effect on jaggies?

I've got a GTX 1070, so 1440p works like charm.

I have the budget for a 1440p g-sync screen (I really want gsync) however if I can save money I'm all for it, or possibly buy 1080p IPS panel for the same money, instead of a 1440p TN panel.

This is the 1440p screen I've currently set my sights on:  https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/556149/acer-predator-xb271hu-(tn)-rood-zwart.html

Thanks in advance for the advice.

See ya!

Either go with an ultra wide 2560x1080p like AOC and LG have good IPS ones that can easily run at 75hz or then go with the 1440p g-sync one, the 1080p isn't worth it when you already have hardware to go further deep.

Got the Acer screen and it pleases me very much.

I was still a bit worried about the viewing angles, but they are fine horizontally, vertically it's not as great but still manageable.

Gsync is an absolute beast (Thanks nvidia).

And I'm happy I went for 1440p as FXAA doesn't really take a huge hit on performance while still giving a decent level of quality.

Running at 1440p when downscaling to 1080p had a much more profound effect on jaggies, but the bump in native resolution is a very good compromise.
