$80 to upgrade CPU + MOBO

Hello guys, in February I will have saved up about $80 which I plan to use to change platforms from AM1 to something else, assuming nothing goes wrong before then.

What upgrade path would you all recommend? I'm not picky if it's AMD or Intel.

I'm currently using an Athlon 5350 paired with an MSI AM1I mITX mobo

My procrastination is the bane of my existence.

I make games and stuff in my spare time.

We already have a pretty good idea that Kaby Lake is going to look a lot like Skylake. I'd wait to see what RyZen brings to the table before making any purchases.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

I am personally a member of team blue/green. I would go for a Z170 board and lower end Sky lake 6100 or something, then upgrade to Kaby lake when possible.

Given with that budget, you should sell your AM1+CPU combo for around 30-40.

You'll have around 110-130(assuming if you sell the AM1 combo), you can pick up a sandy bridge i5(i5-2400/2500) and a low end LGA 1155 motherboard with that budget..

You can upgrade to a i7 3770/K in the LGA 1155 path, it's not the newest one nor the best but it's the best with your budget.

used, but still a good value option:

- 2nd gen i5/i7

- 3rd gen i5/i7

- (massive maybe) xeon on 1366/x58 architecture ? I've seen a board for $25 bid, and then you can pick up an 9xx cpu

idk
