Best GPU for AMD FX-8350

TheLifeBoy

Hello,

I have an AMD FX-8350 OCed @4.5GHz and I'm still stuck with my old GT 430. I was wondering, which would be the best GPU I could get without the CPU bottlenecking it at the lowest price possible.

Thanks for your time.

A gtx 1050 ti would be good for your processor.

I've heard that RX 460 has some driver issues.

Well, what about the green team? I also use this system for video editing so I would prefer to have CUDA Acceleration for the Mercury Playback Engine of Adobe AE and Premiere.

Seriously, upgrade to an i3 6100!

Hmm, I had the idea that the 8350 was better than an i3 :P

I have a GTX 660 right now, which is equal to an RX460 and a bit better than a GTX 750 TI.

GTX 1050 TI is about 25% better than the 660,

FX 8350 is about 20% better than the 6300

currently with an FX6300 my CPU usage is at about 30-50% usage in DOOM, and my GPU usage usually never changes from 98-99% usage. 40-50fps on low

with overwatch my GPU usage is at 95-99%

my cpu is at 60-75% usage.

See what I'm getting at? 1050 TI is too low.

Get the highest performing GPU you can afford.

That way, if you ever upgrade from the FX-8350, you get the fully benefit of the more powerful GPU.

How much of a bottleneck will depend on the games, and how they are coded and optimized.

In some cases, the bottleneck may be minor, while more in other scenarios.

I'm using two R9-Fury's with my FX-8350...and there is a CLEARLY noticeable bottleneck....when you see a 10,000 score difference in 3D Mark FireStrike.

That said, I'm already building a X99 platform to replace my AM3+ system, and re-using the R9-Fury's.

Spoiler

Even though, I currently hold the "valid" top-2 and top-3 3D Mark Firestrike scores in their database...with a FX-8350 and 2x R9-Fury config...I still get rekt by others who are using 2x R9-Fruy's as well, but a different CPU.

  1. My Score: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/9972768
  2. @DXMember's score: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/9750350

But...the best GPU that costs the least amount for a FX-8350 would be somewhere along the lines of:

  • R9-280(X)
  • R9-380(X)
  • RX 470
  • (maybe RX 480)
  • GTX 960
  • GTX 970

I'm hesitating the R9-390(X) or GTX 980...

Funny considering the FX 8350 is.

GTX 1050 TI is a terrible choice when you compare it to previous GPU's. Buying used GPU would be a better value. GTX 1060 3gb isn't even a full 1080p card (as in ultra settings, its okay if you're okay with lowering resolution/settings.) because it lacks vram. GTX 1060 6gb is a good choice, but I don't think you want to spend that much.

Well, what about the green team? I also use this system for video editing so I would prefer to have CUDA Acceleration for the Mercury Playback Engine of Adobe AE and Premiere.

Either RX 480 or GTX 1060, anything better will be strongly held back by the FX CPU.
