I think it was more that people wouldn't believe she hadn't had plastic surgery (what the meme suggested) and so after was only given small roles in advertisements - what 'ruined' her career

She's just got trapped into this scenario when the more you defend yourself, the more others disbelieve you. 

"The more you said you are innocent, the more others suspect you"

"The more you said you are not depressed, the more others thought that you are actually depressed and just trying to cover it"

etc

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.
