GTX 1070 on a 450w PSU

Wix

Hello,

I have a Silverstone ST45SF-G 450w SFX Gold power supply and I'm wondering if it can power an OC'ed i7-6700k + GTX 1070.

It's already powered an ITX rig with an i5-6600k @ 4.5Ghz + GTX 970 before without any problems.

You may want to bump up to a 500w just to be safe, or really pay attention to how much of an overclock you apply.

I'm willing to bet at max you're in the 300* watt range. A quality 450w unit is fine for an itx box.

Wait are you OCing them both or just the CPU?

The CPU i'll OC for sure, the 1070 only if there's headroom left.

Thanks for all the input, guys; I'm feeling more reassured now.

I guess unless it's a craptastic PSU, it'll be okay.

It's a tier 4, I personally wouldn't go that low with a 1070, but ask @STRMfrmXMN to be sure

Generally speaking I think he'll get by with a tier 4 PSU.  Newer GPUs are just very efficient for that.  At the very least it won't set on fire even if it did fail.  And if it does he could go to a corsair sfx one tier up.

In terms of this unit, if I'm thinking about the correct unit, the one that comes with the mitx case isn't as good as the retail one, even though theyre both SS-SFX units.  That's probably why it's tier 4.  But I think if the PSU has already made it a decent way then just keep using it.  STRM can confirm if I'm remembering this correctly or not. xD

pretty sure the tier list is talking about the retail SFX Gold

If that's true then fair enough.  Still for me I'd stick with the unit he had if it's working for him so far.  You don't get that many stellar budget options at sfx, at least last time I checked.

You're fine I have a Corsair SF450 powering a 6700k and GTX 1070.

The SF450 is a Tier 1 tho? - according to the list above

If it's relevant, I used my PSU as the sole exhaust in a hotbox of a case (Silverstone FT03-Mini) without hiccups; Although the 970 had a blower cooler.

I plan on using it in a Fractal Nano S now so it won't be bombarded anymore.

You don't understand the tier system.

No. It's Corsair SF a Tier 1. Yours is Seasonic SF

Tier 1 > Tier 4.

Yes, I was referring to the Tier 1 Corsair SF450 NOT my Tier 4 Seasonic ST45SF-G.

I understand that there's an "SF" in there but I can see how you can miscomprehend.
