What is your favorite element?

delet my acc pls

So i wanted to know your favorite element, also don`t go Jesse Pinkman and start thinking wire is a element.

Is your favorite Carbon because life is based on it?

Is it Mercury because that`s your favorite singers last name?

Is it Oxygen because you don`t want to suffocate?

Is it Lead because it`s latin name is Plumbum?

My personal favorite is Silicon, Because without it this poll would not have been made.

Hydrogen-because water, plastics, and oil. Nuff said.

Whoa epic poll :D

I personally don't enjoy 9-string guitars, but that doesn't change the fact that they look awesome as hell!

Xenon and Platinum in the lead? That's surprising (I guess I did vote for those ones too though...)

Hydrogen. Release it on a hot day and it'll explode as it combines with oxygen to form water. It's volatile and destructive yet suprisingly simple.

Can't believe Helium got so few votes. Srsly? The only element (aside from Hydrogen, kinda) which is deliberately put in the wrong group? C'mon guys, Helium is like the troll element.

Osmium is pretty funny too (literally means "smelly" in Greek because it oxidises in air to form a strange-smelling toxic oxide) but I couldn't vote for it over iridium. That shit is hardcore.

Glad to see Xenon getting the votes it deserves though. Noble gases don't react to form compounds? Excuse me, Xenon has something to say about this...

Also pleased to see nobody went Roentgenium because Roentgenium is terrible.

Scandium, because, well, Scandinavia.

And Mercury, because that is one of my gaming aliases. (So is Quicksilver)

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Everything in group 1 has 1 electron in its outer shell. Everything in group 2 has 2 electrons in its outer shell. Everything in group 3 has 3 electrons in its outer shell, and so forth. Until you reach group 8, where you have Helium sat there with its troll-face and 2 electrons in its outer shell. Like you said, it's still a noble gas (but noble gases do form compounds so in some respects the term is moot) so you can't put it in group 2, but it doesn't have 8 electrons in its outer shell so it doesn't technically belong in group 8 either. At the very least it doesn't fit the pattern. Sure, it technically has a valence of 0 but then you run into the issue that in that case Xenon, Krypton and the other heavier noble gases technically have a valence of +/-1 so it still doesn't fit.

There are a few other reasons why Helium is accidentally hilarious but that's the big one to my eyes.

EDIT: Just noticed the Cummingtonite comment - kudos on citing this fantastically named compound :D
