Mechanical keyboard with custom backlighting?

I love my G19 because of its customizable backlighting but I really want to switch to a mechanical keyboard. Are there any mechanical keyboards with a customizable backlight like the G19?

year of the dragon ducky is the most customizable for backlighting I've seen.

if you want different colors, unless you want to resolder all the LEDs when you want to change color, I haven't seen one.

Will work for electronic components and parts

Do you mean in terms of color? Or different lighting features?

Yeah that was the response I got on reddit too. Looks like I'm not going mechanical until something like that comes out.

DuckyShine 2 - 78 edition
Looks cool but its now exactly what I'm looking for. I want the LEDs to be controllable like they are on the G19.

I'm surprised a company hasn't made a keyboard with tri color LEDs yet to allow the color to change.

I don't know if it's the form factor tri LEDs come in but I don't imagine it's very hard to incorporate something like this in a board.

Yeah I don't get it, I mean they could do it in the G19 right?

  • 2 months later...

Its not mechanical but it does allow you to choose from a combination of any 5 colors from a pallete of 16.8 million colors :), http://steelseries.com/us/products/keyboards/steelseries-apex-gaming-keyboard

There is also this one I don't know if its mechanical or not (sorry no luck finding myself any mech. keyboards either) :(

Less customization but still really good

Ducky Shine is the king of all LED backlighting for mechanical keyboards. Keep your eye out for the new Roccat Ryos though. It's supposed to be basically the ISKU on crack + mechanical keys ... looks promising. It's probably going to suit your style more since its a gaming keyboard. The G710+ (logitech) is great but doesn't have customizable backlighting which is exactly what you're looking for.

Its because it is impossible to have rgb leds on a cherry mx switch, it wont fit.

The reason why there are no mechanical keyboards with multiple/configurable back-lighting options is that the mechanical key switch (e.g. Cherry MX Blue key that looks like a plus sign under the cap) takes up the majority of the space under the key cap.  I have looked into this myself.  Until Cherry or another provider makes smaller switchers or bigger key caps, this is but a dream.
