Cable management.

Jacm

Does anyone know good tips for cable managing with an IKEA linnmon desk. I am going to the store today and want to pick up some cable management tools. Also, can you drill through a desk like this (for routing cables through)?

You could attach the cables to the bottom of the desk, and do so with open lops. That way, you can easily replace cables.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

Thanks, also do you know if 3m tape is worth it and if it could hold up a heavy power strip.

Drilling seems like a poor choice.  There are lots of different cable management accessories you can stick to the underside of the desk.

It depends on the weight of the strip and the kind of tape. I would rather a more permanent solution, but try what's best for you. I'm warning you though, the cables coming off the strip do add some pull to it.

For a basically free option, you could put some staples into the underside of the desk, pull them out slightly then run cable ties through them. never done this myself but i don't see any reason why this wouldn't work

CPU: Intel Core i7 3820 @4.4GHz Motherboard: Intel DX79TO | Graphics Card: XFX RX 480 RS RAM:  16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR3 @ 1600MHz Sound: Asus Xonar Essence STX | Storage: 1x Kingston UV400 120GB | 1x 3TB Seagate Barracuda | 1x WD Green 1TB | PSU: Seasonic S12II 620W | Case: NZXT S340 White | Cooling: NZXT Kraken x31

Isn't that desk just a fiber board filled with paper?
As in a thin "hard" surface with the core of the tabletop itself just like this

If so, forget screwing anything in it, the core is essentially empty, it won't stay screwed in/will end up ripping out sooner or later.
You're better off using something that "sticks" on, like industrial strength velcro.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB / RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus / NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 / PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Win 10 Pro
