Are there any good conventions that are worth while to go to? Just wondering.

I would recommend going to a hackathon or two, if you want to possibly see some cool tech or software not made by giant companies (just a few smart kids).  They happen all over the country.

 

You could also try becoming a member of IEEE.  I was a member for a year and couldn't really use it but there's constantly engineering meetings and tech events going on especially on the west coast.  This is more if you're interested in the technical end and not commercial products.  

 

You could also just look up 'technology conventions' at your closest city.  I'm closest to NYC, so there are a few conventions that pertain to cloud or IOT.  Again, more IT centric than anything.


CES is pretty much the only big 'commercial' thing where you'll see Intel and co.

There are conditions, you realize that right. Even Canadians cant enter without meeting the criteria

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

there is a mechanical keyboard thing / meetup in Seattle on January 7'th

that should be exciting.

i'm going to go try out a bunch of keyboards that i can't afford.

went to the one last year, it was pretty cool.

In addition to hackathons there are also Makerfaires pretty much all around the U.S. and even international too. Not strictly tech and some are much better than others but you are likey to see some 3D Printing, Robotics, Drones and Arduino type projects.

Defcon, CES, PAX, and Makerfaires. Most you need a press pass or be an exhibitor.
