Am still having trouble figuring out what to do here I finding answers to two different things with people in amazon saying that the bottom is the one I want and the newest version.

http://m.imgur.com/lrIxhIv  these are apparently both the lg "wh16ns40"  BOTH of them are I don't know if one if just an earlier model but I am not sure which one to look for because there are apparently like 2-3 different versions with different faceplates on them

Before anyone says it too the bh16ns40 also looks like both as well not just the bottom one

Then where do people on amazon buy the regular looking faceplate and get the other one lg is so confusing with this that they have to have two products with the same name

The bottom one is the older model, but it has a more premium face plate compare to the newer one. The LG logo is 3D and metallic and the eject button is part of the face place so it blends in. I have the bottom one on my ITX build.

So it will be harder to find the older one then? So which one is the one to get if I have windows 10?

Optical drive is optical drive don't matter which one you get. They all work with Windows 10. The only difference is the speed it can support when burning to disc. My only tops out at 14x, but I got that back in 2013.  The older face plate seems to be a new model also at 16x.

Its not the faceplate/looks its that there is clearly something weird here and nktnsure which one to look for

What is weird about two drives with different face plates. If they're the same drive but different face plates that doesn't change anything about the drive.

The bottom is the older face plate because it's the same as my model which I got back in 2013. LG seems to have to use the older face plate on their newer model as well. Want a premium look on the drive get the one with the bottom face plate. Want a cheap feel, then get the top.

Because products get refreshed over time to keep them looking new, they might have a minute difference in hardware design so the look may be changed. What does that matter?

So they are the same drive with different faceplate? So you have the older 14x version and the newer 16x is what you are saying as a older face place on the newer model, and then the newest version they got is the ordinary one,ok now that makes a bit more dense

Newest Blu-Ray writer right now is at 16x

LG seems to have use the older face plate for the newer models

LG also seem to have made another face plate for these newer models

Old face plate has a 3D LG logo on the disc eject tray

New face plate has a LG logo that's printed on

Don't matter which on you get, as long at it's 16x, but the older face plate makes it look a lot nicer.

Old face plate, notice the LG logo and eject button
