Most photorealistic games of 2016/2015

Philosobyte

What games released in the past few years do you think have the most realistic graphics on highest settings?

Do you think there is a visual trend that the game industry is moving towards?

Thus far, I believe that very few games have managed to render facial shadows and highlights believably, without excessive "shininess" in the highlights and with accurately sharp or blurred shadows depending on the lighting and angle.

BeamNG.Drive, especially with those physics (wow). Not sure if it counts as a 2015-16 game, since it's still in alpha release and is constantly being updated...

Everybody's Gone To The Rapture is by far the most realistic-looking game I've yet seen. Just look at some screenshots (warning, big images ahead):

Everyones gone to the rapture was a stunning looking game, defo a case of style over substance though and it ran terribly. The Division looks nice, Dirt Rally too.

Im not sure when it was released but the game that had the biggest visual impact on me at the time was The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. When you first walk out of the tunnel into the forest my jaw dropped.

5950 - 3090 - 32gb - Aorus FV43U - Steam Deck - Fuji xPro 3 - Olympus OM1 n

So not even close to finished but here is my pick as it has your facial shadows and highlights as well as independent eye lashes. Hopefully the games companies decide to push for this LoD

Oh don't get me wrong, the game is shit. But it looks breathtaking.

I think they concentrated so much on making it look good that they forgot to add any gameplay.

Well it's in alpha so the expansion of the game play starts with 3.0, it was ment to be out this month but got delayed, I think the "issue" was not the graphics but a multiple of issues of trying to do things differently and the pay off is so slow people question if it was all worth it.

To me, yes definitely.
