Well I got to finally use it and this here is my first attempt

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrPmsyQ1_ew

Not sure why when I go ahead and play it back on my HDD and it looks so much cleaner and not so blury but after I uploaded it - it came out like that . Another thing is I would like to be able to record longer video's, so far it's only letting me record 3.80gigs and I am using manual mode, not shadow mode.

i never had a issue recording more than 3.80gigs and i think youtube downscales the quality (not 100% sure) but if you use  the right render settings in premiere you can get the quality pretty good

That's incorrect.  Shadowplay has a 20-minute limit on Windows 8 and a 10-minute limit on Windows 7.  Manual recording mode is unlimited.

  • 7 months later...

I think I'm getting a little better at this editing thing. I didn't even know how to use it a few weeks ago but now I'm finding out how this thing works.

That's incorrect. Shadowplay has a 20-minute limit on Windows 8 and a 10-minute limit on Windows 7. Manual recording mode is unlimited.

You can record continuous on manual, but it still saves the video files in chunks of 3.8GB. It's a limitation with Shadowplay/Win 7. So if you play and record for a couple hours you could end up with a bunch of 3.8GB files.

Never say it's not broken. Everything is broken. Why? Because everything needs MOAR POWA!

Does this limitation exist in 8.1?

No, it's more like the limitation of the M$ Mp4 muxer in Windows 7, not Shadowplay itself. Window 8 Mp4 muxer don't have this filesize limitation limit.

Why? You can get rid of the eye-cancer start menu thingy and add a custom, better start menu very easily. It has better performance and allows DirectX 14 or whatever the latest one is.

I'm not saying that I support Micro$oft's decisions regarding Win8, but they can be easily worked around and it is worth it.

I've tried Win8 on a laptop and wow I did not like it. Plus the solid color thing makes it look like they made a step back to the 80's with all it's blandness. I like Win 7 and the way it works and also I like the aero glow and transparency and it's less confusing to change my settings. Also for some odd reason when I was on win 8 and tried to watch Youtube in full screen it wouldn't let me, so I was getting pissed off and had to ask someone why the hell wont it go full, lol They told me I have to download the freakin app, what a crock of shit that was.

Nothing gets rid of the memory leak issue that randomly plagues people in Windows 8. Nothing gets rid of the fact that the Desktop is just an "app" and there is no actually desktop mode that you can switch to. Nothing changes the fact that you can't just install some drivers, like printer drivers, and are forced to pair them with special Apps from directly from MS for them to work. Also, the latest DX is only DX 11.2, which offers no significant performance gains. It's also compatible with Windows 7, but MS is intentionally withholding it to try and push Windows 8 adoption.

There's a hack to enable Aero.

Youtube full screen work fine for me in Chrome/Firefox/Opera/IE.

Regarding the memory leaks and driver issues, I have never had any such problems, nor have I heard of anyone else who has.

There is definitely a desktop mode, I'm using it right now, as I do every time I use my PC;

And there are definitely going to be further DirectX updates in the future; you're going to have to switch at some point.

The memory does not affect everyone, but that does not mean it does not exist. Go do a Google search for "windows 8 low memory when gaming", Heck there have even been threads about it on these forums. Also don't try to claim the driver issue doesn't exist, I brought up the print driver issue because I just suffered through it myself. My laptop runs Windows 8.1, yet I could not simply install the printer driver on it like I could for my two Windows 7 PC's. HP has 8.1 specific drivers, but that wasn't good enough. In order to use things like the scanner function on my printer I had to download a special App from the Microsoft store. Not an HP App either, it was a Microsoft brand App.

Lastly, you are not running in "desktop mode", it's a complete lie. Your "desktop" is still nothing more than an app. The "desktop mode" only pretends to act like a desktop would and it is still 100% impossible to run Windows 8 or 8.1 with all apps disabled and use only a traditional desktop. As far as switching for DX updates, they have already announced DX12 support for Windows 7. But beyond that I'll wait to see if they pull their head out of their asses with Windows 9.

I'm pretty sure it's been stated that DirectX 12 will be supported on Windows 7. And even so, games that support it won't be around until end of 2015, and by then, Windows 9 should be out.
