Hey guys!

I need some quick help picking up my 1070. I've been with a 7970 for almost 4 years so time to upgrade.

I've narrowed it down to evga founders edition, ASUS STRIX or MSI Gaming X.

Heard that EVGA has the best warranty and support ever, while ASUS and MSI is basically a tie.

Regarding the cards themselves, ASUS seems to have the best coolers and performance, then MSI, then evga founders.

Finally, read that ASUS 1070 have been suffering from a couple of problems and they refuse to acknowledge them, so that steered me a bit away from it.

What do you think? Should I compromise a bit in performance and go with the evga for the peace of mind?

I CANT get another evga card. Only founders available here, otherwise I wouldnt have this concern.

are you in ATX form factor? color scheme matter?

Yep, ATX. Color scheme would be the last in my list. Mostly worried about warranty, support and performance.

On the reviews you've read about it, do they show the cooler with the thermal pads in the first place?

ASUS, MSI, and other brands were caught sending cherry-picked cards to reviewers some time ago. EVGA was caught not putting thermal pads on purpose. It's better if you ask the GTX 1070 owners themselves about the card they are using.

With that said, I'd go with EVGA since they've definitely placed thermal pads now on their GTX 1070 and GTX 1080. If you bought one that didn't, you could request it from their world-class customer support.

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

Could be an individual issue however, haven't heard it of it outside of reddit.

in the end, a 1070 is a 1070 and unless you get a hall of fame edition, you're in the silicon lottery. i would recommend the zotac amp! edition, its about the cheapest out there, has a back plate and is really well cooled.

Here is some of it:

The issue is not the memory, the memory is actually cooled by contact with the contact plate (blue), EVGA's issue was the VRMs lacking thermal padding which is clearly visible in the photo (red). I don't know what the issue is with that particular card, but it is not the memory cooling.

The DirectCU III cooler has five heat pipes, although only two actually make direct contact with the tiny GP106 GPU. Thermal padding allows the massive heatsink to also draw heat away from the MOSFETs, while a separate contact plate takes care of the memory chips.

Note, the same cooler and contact pipe is used on the Strix 1060,70, and 80
