Mantle has nothing to do with this. Mantle and directx are competing, and it's directx 11.1 which makes the game run better on win 8.1 because it's the only OS that supports DX11.1

Maybe I don't want Win 8 and since Mantle works on Win 7 I can keep what I want.

This may have something to do with the fact that windows 8 and 8.1 have better support for 8 core CPUs over windows 7, I'd like to see this benchmark run on a 4770k or something similar with less cores to see if it's an actual performance boost directly to the game via DirectX or just windows 8's improvements on 8 cores.

Might partition and install the 8.1 trial and test bf4...

 

Will 8.1's bootloader cfg overwrite win7's bootloader?

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

It uses DX11.1 to boost the peformance of the CPU.

Quote from Johan Andersson(DICE):

“We use DX11.1, there are some optimizations in it (constant buffer offsets, dynamic buffers as SRVs) that we got in to the the API that improves CPU performance in our rendering when one runs with DX11.1."
