New monitor makes my gpu run hot at idle?

SeanAngelo

So I got a new 1440p 144hz G-Sync monitor a couple of days ago and my gpu has been running kinda hot at idle. NOTE**** I am also running a second monitor that is 60hz. Here are my settings for Nvidia Control Panel:

is there a program that reduces the refresh rate to 60hz when not gaming? i noticed that setting the monitor to 60hz reduces the temps to around 42c-45c. And increasing it to 144hz idles it at 52c-55c. any ways to lower the temps?

My GPU is a 780 reference so it has sh*t cooling (my brother is borrowing my zotac amp extreme 980) and i hate hearing my power supply ramp up because it has to cool down because the gpu is taking up that much power on idle power i guess?

Thanks in advance,

Sean.

If you go to Screen Resolution (right click the desktop), then Advanced Settings, Monitor you can set the refresh rate. It should be at 60 already for you, but if it's not you can set it to that.

i know that, ive set it to 60hz. but can i not have it automatically go to 144hz when gaming? because im not really up for changing the refresh rate to 144hz every time i wanna play a game.

Unless there is a tool for that I don't know about (which is very possible), no.

Deal with the higher idle temps, or change things manually. Or download autohotkey or just learn to write scripts for windows and make one that will do that for you.
