1080p content on 4K TV

pdubs

Hello

I just got a 4K tv and don't have any native 4K content yet, but a lot of 1080p. If I'm playing it off of my computer, is it better to

1) tell my computer that the tv is 1080p and let the tv upscale

or

2) set the output resolution at 4K even though the video is 1080p

I guess I just don't know how the upscaling works.

Thank you
