After many attempts, I still don't get the mechanical keyboard

Every year, after I watch enough tech Youtubers (Hardware Canucks, LTT, Jays2cents, Bitwit, Joker Productions, etc.) I get all worked up to go and buy a mechanical keyboard, and every time I end up returning it and go back to my trusty 2008 Logitech K340 rubber dome.

 

I tried Brown, Blue, Romer-G switches, K-70, and they all feel too high, heavy, cumbersome, have ugly cables, and not worth the premium, like what am I supposed to feel different when I press them. They do look like chocolate bars though.

there are people who will sell you there mother just to earn a buck............... I tried lots of different mice and keyboards. keep going back to my old stand by's too.

Well, having a preferred keyboard feel is subjective so if you like your K340 that's totally fine :). I personally like scissor switch keyboards more than Cherry switch 'boards.

Mechanical keyboard is suppose to let you type faster by not pressing the buttons all the way down and hitting the base like a rubber dome. Blue and Brown have that tactile feed back where after you feel that, your suppose to release those keys and continue on pressing the next one. Red and black don't have that tactile feedback, so most will still bottom out, like a rubber dome. The only way not to do that is to type really light.

Browns and blues should give you satisfaction with the tactile sensation. Longer travel time should feel less cumbersome (if you dont bottom out) and consistency with some keys not being softer than others.

I have a IBM model M but I keep returning to a membrane HP keyboard because people in my house complaning that its to loud:(

If you like your logitech membrane keyboard then just stick with it, keyboards are all down to personal preference so...ya know :P

Up to a point I would say. Build quality, roll over, backlight, and so on are premiums that most mechanical keyboards have.
