So around 6 months ago, I thought I bought a decent PC from a Custom PC shop, local to me. After learning a lot since then, I know my GPU (Asus 750Ti OC) and CPU (i7 6700) are a horrible match, and have been considering getting an Asus Strix 1070. When researching if my PSU was sufficient, I discovered I have a Pulse Power Plus 500W PSU. I have heard many warnings about poor power supplies bricking rigs, need I be worried?

Thanks, Protex

The PSU watts of 500 for your setup is more then enough, However I would invest in getting a more reliable, as its often something people overlook, but its way more important then people may think. Just drop $40 on a well reviewed preferably Bronze rated or higher PSU and you will be fine.

yes, yes you should. How much do you have to spend on a PSU? You don't want that cheap one frying your expensive components

Depends how long I work, but I can hold off on a GPU, I still have warranty for 4 months though. Is it a 'turn off PC now' replacement or 'get on it' urgency?

That doesn't necessarily guarantee anything.  The 80+ certification only evaluates efficiency, not quality.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

The thing is, you can't be sure with shady power supplies. It might work for years or die tomorrow. They are unpredictable.

Right but thats what I am saying a high reviewed 500 psu with 80+ to make sure that hes getting as much watts as advertised.

Alright, just wanted to make sure it was clear since that notion is out there :)

Totally :D. But as you know 500 watts advertised does not mean 500 watts will you get :D

750ti's don't really draw much power, so I suppose you're fine for now, just make sure to upgrade before you throw anything like a 1070 in there. I'd recommend an EVGA G2 if you can save up a little. Check out the PSU tier list in my sig, anything tier two or above should go, aim for at least 500W because why not

Need I take into consideration I have an Asus H110 Plus mobo?

Yes, sometimes it's more, sometimes it's less.  Always check the reviews!

I've heard it's insanely good but the G2 was already amazing.  Like, it scored a literal perfect 10/10 on jonny guru

I should really provide a source though:

Quote

Performance (40% of the final score) - you know, I love it when these power supply companies make things easy for scoring. This unit couldn't be easier to score. At 0.09% average in the hot box, this unit came with better than mythic voltage regulation and likely gave the competition a heart attack. It also darn near cleared Platinum efficiency, too. The new S&C point is no trouble either, because all three of those transient tests showed nothing but perfection. And with ripple control in the single digits, this is going to be a slam dunk for EVGA. No points come off. Have a 10, people.

No, surprisingly, overall it did not, however in the performance category, like I said, it blew him away with amazing performance like he'd never seen before, as per the quote.
