First computer build

Go to solution Solved by Dormerister,

Thank you all for the help, I'll keep your advice in mind when I buy the parts.

You guys helped out a lot.

Hi, I'm a complete beginner when it comes to building computers, even though I watch tech channels regularly, I still have troubles deciding what to do. I would like to get some help with this build, I need it for school and work. I'm an Animation student (specialy 3D animator and I use maya a lot), and I work as a video editor, but I'm also an avid gamer. This build was given to me by my cousin, and I just want to hear opinions and suggestions.

My budget is $1,200 dollars but I can go up to $1,300 dollars if it include a screen and a keyboard.

This is the list. PC part picker: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XHk3m8

I would really appreciate the help.

Avoid the V300, get something better it's a terrible SSD.

If you render a lot when video editing and such then more RAM might be beneficial.

Aside from the model of the SSD which has already been pointed out I'd recommend getting a bigger SSD (240+ GB).

Note that this will increase your budget a bit. But ask yourself - how long will it take before I want to upgrade to for instance more RAM or a bigger SSD? If it won't take that long you're better off with investing a little extra from the start rather than having to upgrade and hassle with selling the old parts. Me myself I wish I would have done this when I built my first rig.

Asus X99-A w/ BIOS 3402 | Intel i7 5820k OC @4.4GHz 1.28V w/ Noctua NH-U14S | 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 OC @2666MHz 12-14-14-28 | Asus Geforce GTX970 STRIX OC | EVGA 750 G2 750W | Samsung 850 Evo 1 TB | Windows 10 64-bit | Be-Quiet Silent Base 800 w/ Silent Wings | 2x Dell U2414H OC @72Hz w/ Display Port

Don't forget to invest in an Intel Tuning Plan if you're going to overvolt your K/X CPU

Sandisk SSD PLUS 240gb would be a better fit?

Crucial MX300 275gb is great value for its size and so much faster than the sandisk, consider that.

A i5 at 4.5GHz will be able to bottleneck a 1070 at 1080p...

I think that I have showed proof of this over 10 times now.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.

Hi

At 60Hz I wouldn't care much, but at 144Hz I would get a i7 and get some other parts that is cheaper and still good. I am willing to bet that I can fit a i7 into his budget, but I don't have the time right now

Nice build, either way it should work.  While I will add my bit I also want to add a bit of advice.  Don't go with what anyone says if you don't agree.  Building a computer is about building the computer YOU want and need, and so if you want a 120GB SSD for a better GPU or 1TB HDD the STICK WITH IT.  While I would suggest getting a bigger one for convenience sake make sure to choose wisely and choose what you want.

Also, while building a good computer can seem very nerve racking it really isn't once you build one.  Just build it right and you will be fine.  I built my computers on carpet and they work fine, and I've watched people build computers on carpet while eating McDonalds and drinking coke with greasy ass fingers and it still works totally fine no damage.  This is by no means saying that you should do this, you SHOULDN'T do that but you should also know that unless you really mess up you should be fine.  The most important part is not bending CPU socket pins, i've seen that done a lot, and can lead to some bad situations.  But follow Linus's videos and you will be fine.

As for the SSD I suggest going with a Samsung EVO or PRO they are the ones I trust, and while you might not have the budget for it, if it was me I would go down to a 1060 and get a better SSD but that is where your choice comes in.  It's just my personal preference.  I would also go with a non-k CPU since in my opinion overlcocking doesn't make a HUGE difference unless you overclock quite a lot, although it is a lot of fun!  And so because I think a PC should be for more than gaming I personally choose the full experience over going with one thing and loosing another.  In my opinion a balanced system is a good system.
