I heard that AMD GPUs (such as my 7850) use a CPU core to help them fold or something like that and that it is best to dedicate a CPU core to them folding. I have a 965BE so I could spare a core but how do I do this? If I just go to Configure --> Slots --> smp --> and change the number from -1 to 3 does this do it, I am a total F@H noob.

You got it spot on. So, AMD hits a CPU core more then NVidia, so some people recommend doing as you pointed out do get better PPD. You really have to play with this. And unfortunately, this can take a while, as each change needs a day or two to run to get accurate PPD - so, you have the default setup, reducing the SMP by a core or.... only running SMP folding or only running GPU folding.... lots of options.

After a bit of experimenting smp:3 and GPU running is a clear winner!
