chipset letters

So the number before is the chipset skew. So for intel, you can only overclock on Z series, H series is budget with some high end features, and B series is budget or business. The letters directly after usually tell you what form factor. For example, a Z170M board is an mATX board. If it has no letter, its probably ATX. Letters after that are usually up to the manufacturer. So Z170M-A, H150-V are ways that they delineate which version it is.

h170m means it is a micro atx form factor while h170 is an atx form factor

 

the beginning letter means

 

H - No overclocking, No SLI

 

Q,Z,X,P - Overclockable

 

B - Non overclockable, business

I think it's just some extra stuff the board manufacture put in.
