Torn between Dark Rock 3 and Dark Rock Pro 3

waynec94

So hey guys, I am in the market for a new CPU cooler (using a Dark Base Pro 900 now and intending to get a be quiet CPU cooler, an upgrade from my noisy CM 212X)

based on the bottom specs list, the Dark Rock Pro 3 (left) has an overall high noise level than the Dark Rock 3.

My aim here is definitely ONLY silence. So the quietest one wins.

But I am confused on which would run quieter? As the Dark Rock Pro 3 would probably run at lower RPMs for both fans, while the Dark Rock at a higher RPM (since 2 vs 1 fan)

Or am I looking at no difference at all by the end of it?

i7 4790 btw.

RAM clearance is not an issue. Thanks!

The Pro has two fans, the non-Pro only has one. They are the same fans. I'm using a non-Pro on my 4790k without issue. If your overclocking get the bigger one...

my only requirement is for absolute quietness. :x not sure if the Pro (dual fan) will offer more silence than the single fan non-Pro.. thoughts?

You could get Pro and run it with single fan... It has more surface area for heat dissipation, so you might be able to run fan at lower speeds compared to DP3 and still achieve close to same performance.

With the Pro 3 you can remove the front fan and leave the middle one. If you don't want to remove the fans then get the non pro. Having two fans would be extra noise, though I think that with these coolers it would be a trivial detail.

^ Ditto.

That being said, replacing the fan on your 212 Evo would be much cheaper and achieve similar results.
