Which Monitor for i5-6600k + MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X

FRN

Which monitor is better

  1. 1. Which monitor is better

    • BenQ GW2765HT 27" 1440p
      7
    • LG 34UM58 34" 1080p
      1

I think both are great monitors. But I don't know which one will be better for my GTX 1070. I'm primarily gaming and watching movies/tv series in my PC. Price difference is just Php 1000 ($21 according to Google)

At minimum 1440p, you'll bottleneck a 1070 with the i5 at ultra wide 1080p

Yeah that's what they said here: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/695085-i7-6700-or-i5-6600k-for-gtx-1070/

Even though its Ultrawide maybe at 75hz will it still bottleneck?

I'd probably go for the 1440p monitor. IPS panel + higher resolution.

Erm, no. The resolution will alleviate the bottleneck not the refresh rate of the monitor.

How about a 144hz 1080p monitor? Can I also consider that one?

Sure, if you're fine with seeing that GTX 1070 being bottlenecked by that i5 6600K in more than a few games.

Okay, the one game where there may be some bottlenecking is ROTTR. The rest should be fine.

Fine for 1440p or the 1080p? I might as well get that 1440p monitor, although there will be words from my wife. LOL.

No, for 1080p 144Hz. I would opt for the 1080p 144Hz monitor in this case, since the higher refresh rate will be beneficial in games such as CS:GO.

Alternatively, you could skip the i5 6600K and go straight for the i7 6700.

I wont be buying the processor until next year. Is it wise to wait for Kabylake instead?

Yes. Zen will fight over your money too.

Neither vendor will win. The consumer wins.

Anyway I suggest a 27" 1440p IPS display. The 1070 will confortably max/ultra most games at that res.

34" for 1080p ultrawide is just too big, hurting the pixel density. It would only be great for watching movies or if you got bad eyesight.

Thanks. Good thing I haven't bought the motherboard and CPU. I'll just get the other stuff first since I won't be buying these in one go. Its just more economical for me.

I may (or may not) have a problem. The monitor I've been eyeing for a while, the BenQ GW2765HT doesn't seem to be 144hz but it is 1440p. It is rather a 60hz monitor. Now I this isn't good since its the most I can spend on a monitor and I can't find a 1440p 144hz around my budget of 20,000 Philippine pesos. Will the BenQ monitor just do fine even if its 60hz?

Go for it.

The GW2765HT is like, the cheapest IPS 27" 1440p in the US market right now.

If you can't afford more than that, there is no possibility of getting a 1440p 144Hz display.

Wouldnt there be a limit to the fps since its only 60hz?

Actually Im more worried about thenscreen tear since i have beefy 1070.

It's fine but are there any 1080p 144Hz monitors? I'd be leaning towards refresh rate over resolution if you're a CS:GO player.
