Yes!

Windows may detect new hardware and say activate plz and you should be able to do so.

Nope I've moved images across 100s of drives and I just activate via phone (Using enterprise). Most of the time it never complains. If it does just follow the directions on the screen. If it is for some reason being painful a fresh install on the SSD and then transferring the files is always a solid plan.

Which SSD did you buy? Some come with cloning software to clone your OS install from your HDD to SSD. However, I would just go for a fresh install. If you got a new SSD, why not start fresh with a clean OS installation rather than having to deal with a broken install from your HDD.

I recommend to re-install Windows and not do a clone. Cloning can lead to errors due to the different technologies. It is best to do a clone with the same drive (same brand and model, even) to reduce errors. I am not saying it won't be successful, but if you want to ensure a 0 problem experience, I would clean install.

Do a clean install. If you want to keep the personal settings, try back it up and restore it to SSD on laptop; clone OS to SSD directly on desktop.
