rocking a g3258 and a gtx 550ti right now, i'm thinking about getting a evga gtx 1060 6gb ssc then upgrading my CPU next year to a i3 or i5, as the prices of haswell will probably drop allot once kaby lake comes out. What are your thoughts? just want some other opinions but i think ive got it planned out well.

No, the prices of haswell chips will not drop " a lot" - they are still very relevant chips in todays markets.

Your best bet is to find something used. Chip prices don't really drop much, as production ceases when the new one is released. They don't keep making older chips, so it's just retailers selling off their old stock.

I'd grab a used CPU, they should be quite cheap now.

lol thats what i thought when i bought my I5 4690K with the hope to get an I7 4790K later but nope, the I7 4790K has only droped about $30 where i live :( as for your plan i would look for a used I5 and a used GPU to get good value

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Look into a Xeon E3 (1231 V3?). they can be had for little more than an unlocked i5, and come with Hyperthreading enabled as well as the full range of L3 cache. For all intents and purposes, a locked, $50 discounted i7.

If you want the best though, the i7-4790K or the 5770C (Unicorn Edition) are the fastest chips that will go into an LGA 1150 socket.
