That happens a lot because the car takes in air from the outside and heats it up or cools it down and so if you don't have recirculate on (which closes access to outside air) a little bit of wind will blow through the system.  I think it happens more in older cars because my Jeep is 2007 and it does the same thing.

If you have your vents set to this:

stock-vector-car-airflow-button-symbol-b

It will let outside air in as you move (air usually comes from just in front of the windshield)

If you don't like it, leave it on

EDIT: If you don't have the A/C button in the "ON" setting, the A/C isn't running either.

There is usually a climate control button or knob for it. Some cars automatically revert to "fresh" (opening the car to outside air), so you have to keep on closing the vent by selecting "recirculate" if that is what you intend to do.

Looks like that.  Just hit that button or set the dial to that option and you should be good.

If your dash looks like the one below, try pressing the button on the leftmost knob (of the three HVAC control knobs).

Sorry, but all of these things are incorrect. (Well, most of them...)

Cars SHOULD seal off the vents when you have everything off. But what happens is that usually some sort of foam is used to seal the "doors" that direct air one way or another. That foam, over time, falls apart which lets air flow through that part even when it's supposed to be "closed."

I know this because I have literally taken the HVAC system in both of my cars apart. I usually just switch the car to blow air out of the feet or by the windshield so it's not blowing in my face. Besides, fresh air is a good thing.

That used to be the case. Older cars (and many new cars still) keep the vents closed when the HVAC is set to recirculate. More and more new cars default to fresh or regularly cycle between recirculate and fresh to flush out cabin air (to reduce the risk of oxygen deprivation), however. This is because makers are saying that reduced oxygen levels in the cabin has been affecting alertness in some drivers, especially during longer drives.
