MSI r9 390 heat issues

Go to solution Solved by GalacticRuler,

That case is giving no cooling room at all. I would take everything out of the case and run it. If the card is still running hot, then RMA it.

So I have seen my msi r9 390 getting pretty hot. I know it's supposed to get hot, but I constantly get 90-95C while gaming. It's in the Rosewill SRM-01 case, inside which the gpu fits, but do not get a lot of air flow. I would like to know if it's my gpu's fault and I should rma it or if I should simply change for a mid-tower case. Thank you!

It looks like the hot air is getting trapped below, can you connect a fan to the bottom of the case to bring in more cool air?

run your games with your side panel removed and a fan directly blowing into the components.

If you have the option to you may want to add a fan in the front or bottom to help promote airflow through the case since it's a downdraft card the heat just get trapped inside the case if there isn't good ventilation.

also if you could afford an r9 390, you should be able to afford a semi-decent case.

290s/390s TwinFrozr need a wind tunnel to get optimal cooling performance. I changed my casing because of that.

Most likely an airflow issue indeed.

Next to that you could ramp up the fans a bit.

The Msi 390 doesnt have the best cooling unit in the world.

But it basicly should be capable to do better then that.

Thank you guys for your reply. I'll try GalacticRuler's thing and if it's better I'll simply get a new case. I'm hesitating between the S340 and Phanteks Eclipse P400. What are your opinions on which I should get? :)

I just got myself a build in the Phanteks Eclipse P400. You can also connect 1m or 2m variants of an original Phanteks LED RGB strip and control the lighting from the button at the top of the case, here is my build log if you want to see how it looks like:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White
