Doesn't a mini desktop pc with an external GPU sound awesome?

Any idea for a small but powerful pc case? I was also looking at something like Sentry by Dr Zaber that thing looks sweet, but its still not available... any suggestion for something like the Sentry that I can use right now?

The NODE 202 is the closest thing to the Sentry.

Why isn't there a mini desktop pc (like a zotac) with an external GPU solution?

Why would there be? If you want something portable with an external GPU, then get a laptop. A mini PC with an external GPU isn't that portable because you still need a monitor. Defeats the purpose. If you just want to save space, an ITX system in the Dancase A4 SFX or Node 202 will take up pretty much the same volume.

It doesn't make since to me. What's the point of having a small system when the external graphics card is many, many times the size of the rest of the components. Plus, it seems like it would add a lot of mess to a setup. If you really wanted one, as mentioned above just use the Razer Core with the Intel Nuc. I just still don't see why.......

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

I understand your point. But in my case I work a lot on my pc, but I don't do much gaming, maybe once or twice a month, so I don't wanna spend a lot of money on a gaming desktop. I would like a small pc that I can use for work, but still have the option to game when I rarely do.

Yeah the Intel Nuc sounds good.
Its just that, like I said in another comment, In my case I work a lot on my pc, but I don't do much gaming, maybe once or twice a month, so I don't wanna spend a lot of money on a gaming desktop. I would like a small pc that I can use for work, but still have the option to game when I rarely do.

That's fair. That is something I would probably do myself.

Still doesn't make sense, as you'd be spending more money for the mini PC plus external GPU enclosure plus actual GPU than if you just build a small form factor system with a midrange GPU for when you do want to game a little.

well, you can plug the razer core into the newest intel NUC..

kinda the same?

Yup, that sounds good.
But isn't there more options? Is it just me that finds this cool? xD

But...that doesn't make any sense. It's not like you're carrying it around with you, it's sitting on your desk. Why does it matter how much space it takes up? Not only that, why would you want two boxes on your desk instead of one?

It's not like having an external GPU is suddenly cheaper because you only use it a couple times a month.

I would like a setup because I could get an even smaller mini-ITX system with a fully fledged desktop CPU. Then if I want to go somewhere with my laptop, I can take the external GPU with me. I also wouldn't have to worry about getting a laptop with a discrete GPU.

The reason why I would want a laptop in the first place is because a laptop is a fully contained system. If I brought the mini PC, I'd still need a keyboard, mouse, and monitor.

You could get the Nuc now and spend other money down the road.

I know, but I'm a fan of a minimalist look on my desk. A tiny box to do all my computing sounds like a dream to me. And having the option to later just plug a GPU to it and game would be cool. You're probably right, and maybe it's just a stupid idea but I was curious to know if more people though the same xD

well Linus did a build video a while back with gpu and all inside a case about the size of a shoe box, so...that's pretty dang small for a full system

The NODE 202 is the closest thing to the Sentry.
