Do you have Makerbot Desktop? You can convert from STL to .makerbot in that. I don't want to download it for a one time use, so yknow.

OK. do it in .sti and I can do it

What is this for now, if your 3D printing it with that much overhang it will not be very strong espically if it's very thin material like in the DVD slot.

I could do scaffolding and sand it out to help

Yes but it's still a thin cross section that will be inserted partially into the drive my worry would be keeping tolerances when making the part and not having it break off inside. Why not just get an aluminum muse pad and use it on the side or overlay onto of the laptop.

We'll print vertically. No overhang/scaffolding required.

Yes that's doable but the fact that it is still a thin cross section being canter-levered is what I'm concerned about mainly since it won't be very strong in resisting moment or bending.

That is true. We could make the middle part shorter.

I was thinking if you got an aluminum mouse mat and found a good way of modularly attaching it that would work well but I'm having trouble thinking of a good method for it to just clip in place easily and quickly.

Give this print a try. Made length 12 instead of 12.3 because of Apple's CD slot with the curved sides. If it doesn't fit, I'll reduce the dimensions. DO NOT print with overhang. Either vertical or on it's side.
