i5 or i7

I am trying to decide between getting an i5 or i7 for my new build. The computer is mainly going to be used for programming, excel, school work, and possibly some gaming. So is it worth the extra $100+ dollars to go from an i5-6600 to an i7-6700 in my case? I can afford either, although if the i7-6700 is overkill I would rather put the money towards something else in the build.

for what you're using it for, the i5 would be best.

Out of those two, definitely the i5. Without the gaming, you'd be more than fine with an i3.

if you can afford it go for the i7 but for gaming go for just  i5

If you're playing 75hz or lower, go with the i5. If you want 120hz or more, i7.

I know its the eternal struggle in the PC world but its especially true right now. with kaby lake coming out 1st quarter next year as well as amd zen, if you don't need it right now, id wait it out. the 7600k, I've seen OC's of over 5 ghz ON AIR COOLING!

it was a leak so idk how reliable it is. but it was featured on either LTT wan show, or bitwit's weekly podcast awhile ago.
