I already have 8GB of RAM in system, and am looking to upgrade to 16GB. Is possible to simply add another 8GB stick of RAM to my free DIMM slot, and have it work without having to do anything else?

Also, is there any tips you have when upgrading RAM?

Motherboard: Asus H81m Plus

CPU: i5 4570

Current RAM: Single 8GB stick of Kingston DDR3 1600MHz

Yeah it's that simple.

It would be ideal to find the exact same RAM on the market and buy it.

Otherwise you just need to find RAM stick that have similiar voltages, timings and frequency.

Intel i7 12700K | Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X DDR4 | Pure Loop 240mm | G.Skill 3200MHz 32GB CL14 | CM V850 G2 | RTX 3070 Phoenix | Lian Li O11 Air mini

Samsung EVO 960 M.2 250GB | Samsung EVO 860 PRO 512GB | 4x Be Quiet! Silent Wings 140mm fans

Just buy another identical kit of ram and add it in. It's very plug and play; simply power off the computer, install the ram, and power it back on and your all set.

My motherboard is the Asus H81m Plus

I have the h81m-e and planning to do the same too, just add another ddr3 and should be fine. get one with similar specs to be safe (same voltage, speed, timing, frequency, color, size, look, price, oh god)

I currently have a single 8GB stick of DDR3 1600MHz

2 x DIMM, Max. 16GB, DDR3 1600/1333/1066 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory

16gb is supported so, look at ur current ram module and get the same one.

CL number is actually what is main issue. Like with my upgrade where I had RipjawX 2133 CL9 in place and I tried to just add HyperX Fury 1600 CL10 there. Didn't boot. Switched Fury as first and booted once with it before adding Ripjaw. And now its running fine.

Depends on whether you have a single channel or dual channel RAM. How many sticks are you using currently?

How does that matter exactly? There's really little difference between single channel and dual channel so that you would notice it in normal use. Only if mobo is picky about how RAM sticks are configured should matter. I have older PC using 3 sticks of RAM, all of them different specs. One was supposed to be dead even.
