First Custom Loop

This holiday season I plan to finally build my custom loop. I already have most things laid out but don't know a few things. First what is a good res? Keep in mind my PC case is made for watercooling and already has res mounting options same with anti vibration pump mounts. The pump is another item I don't have a clue about. I don't want something crazy loud and it will be hidden from site. The coolant used is also one thing I don't care a lot about. I know color degrades soft tubing and fads so I would prefer something that will just last a long time, isn't hard on things, expensive, and doesn't have a lot of growth. Finally should I go hardline and what connectors are good and reliable?

 

Can I have a Copper GPU block with these components? Mixing metals wise?

EK and bitspower make good reservoirs.

Buy a D5 pump, preferably the one with the dial on the back that you just set and never worry about again.

Also, for coolant use a premix bottle of EK coolant EVO or something similar from another brand, I think mayhems has a concentrate that you can just add to distilled water if you want. Remember that when you use one coolant you should stick to that one.

For your first time, I'd suggest soft tubing.

 

you could use something like distilled water, or a clear coolant from EK, XSPC, or Aerocool or whatever. 

 

Dont mix metals ever, please.

 

You can get good D5 pumps from EK that'll fit your mounting I'd assume, D5 is an industry standard that is very popular.

I'm a relative water cooling noob with only one build to my name, but can I disagree and suggest you go for hardline if it's what you really want?

 

if you are a patient person who is willing to learn and ask for help, and can understand the concepts of measurements and using the proper bending tools, it's not that hard and it looks SO much better than soft tubing. 

 

My bends are by no means perfect but it still looks way better than soft, plus I now have the confidence to bend tubes and will redo most of them when I clean the loop out in 6 months. 

 

Btw I used barrow fittings in my loop they have triple orings and are cheaper than bitspower. EK tubes fit great.

I don't think you need to change tubing that often. If you have the time, I would change it yearly maybe. I don't have a custom loop myself, but have helped buddies of mine put loops together and have witnessed many loops. I'd find people on PCPP who have their own loops and ask, or google that cause I really don't have an answer. I guess it depends on tube thickness and the liquid you are using, some liquids may not affect your tubing all that much.

That i7 6800k will be chilling at 50°C once you have water cooling up and running.

 

D5 is pump that you want. DDC are loud pumps.

Changing soft tubing? Well if there will be any leaks yeah, otherwise I don't know why would you need to change tubes. Maybe just clean them with water, dry them and put them back in.

 

Nickel and Copper are just fine in the same loop.

As long as you aren't adding any aluminium you will be fine.

 

EKWB are experts in water cooling and they said that it's okay to use copper and nickel in same loop.

 

And about resorvair ... just get some that will fit in your case, and with multiplie ports, so you can decide how tubes will go to look nice :)
