6700k or 5820k for gaming?

My friend has stumbled upon a good deal in his local retail store, the 6700k and the 5820k have been discounted  since they are going out of business, the i7-6700k is priced at $290 and the i7-5820k is priced at $325, what CPU should my friend buy for gaming?

Be sure your friend knows that the 7700k is coming out in January, probably around $375 but in 2-3 months it will probably drop down towards the norm which is $325.

Also, the 1080 Ti will be launching then for probably around the same price the 1080 or just slightly more... $700ish.

He already has a mobo for the 6700k and I don't know if it will fit the 7700k, will ask him first.
