Going to hijack your topic a bit here. Go ikea to do it! I have a linnmon table top

Now to hijack it a bit ;) Could someone link me a cheap and long table top?

Ikea countertops work well. $44 for a (AFAIK) structurally sound 96 inch top.

I've seen a lot of people get ikea countertops and just add some adjustable legs.

Here's a leg at ikea for $15 per leg (so ~$60 + countertop): http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30264301/

There's another one that has a larger height range, but it's more expensive at $30 per leg: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60261626/

Note that neither of these lists a max weight that they support, but I imagine both would be fine for a standard table.

BTW, you can also add a small metal bar underneath the table to add some strength when you're making longer tables.  Similar to what's shown here: img_3656.jpg

I have the first legs, had 500lbs on the table before, they're fine.

I'm glad to hear they're strong.  I was going to make an adjustable computer desk for myself in the future and was looking at those as a simple option.

As a side note: I was also looking at these as a more advanced option for making the desk go up and down using buttons (similar to the UP desks they have at LMG).

They're designed so there is no weight sideways, just straight down. Easily support more than the linnmon tabletops can handle.

Another thing I've seen people do is screw the desk to the wall with some L-brackets to keep it from swaying.  Note that this was done mostly in garages and basements where people didn't care about their walls that much.

The tabletop nerd in me got falsely exited reading this title.

Did you come here expecting foosball, air hockey, or old 1v1 arcade tabletops, like me?

I would advise against legs where you roll it to adjust height. With longer than normal tables (which tend to wobble) legs roll in by themselves little-by-little. So if you have option, get fixed adjusting legs instead (with pins or some screw system) or try to find used office tables.
