I can't change my DNS.

MoonKnightSpidey

I'm on a home PC, and my parents block things using OpenDNS. Just now, my DNS changed, and I can not see how to get it back to the normal google DNS. No files are downloaded to my computer to prevent this, and I am connected with ethernet. I went through the normal way, command prompt, even DNS Jumper, and I can find no way to change it. What is going on here?

Try safe mode with networking. This can make sure that it isn't a program, service or driver that isn't needed causing a conflict. While it's in safe mode just do a quick AV scan with something like malware bytes, just to be sure. Never hurts to be careful.

Not without 'hacking' it, which I have no clue how to do.

When your computer boots up press the f8 key when your display starts. There will be a list of options one will be safe mode with networking.

BIOS and safe mode are different your BIOS is f2 or DEL but on most manufacturers the safe mode start is f8.

The safe mode options will always appear after that screen and if f8 doesn't work it may not be bound to that key. You may need to try the other fn keys that are not listed in that screen shot for the menu to appear.

Also what OS are you running as you can get the system to boot into safe mode on a restart but the steps are slightly different for the different versions of windows.

2_en_XP_windows_advanced_options_menu.as

This is also what that boot menu should look like.

Using windows 10, can't seem to access this. I have about half a second, no exaggeration, to choose one of the options,

1. Boot to your windows 10.

2. Restart your computer while pressing shift constantly.

3. Profit.

Edit:

4. Troubleshoot

5. Advanced options

6. Startup settings

7. Restart

8. Choose the correct number for safe mode with networking

Have you tried going into the network and sharing centre and changing your adaptor settings to the google DNS?

Please quote my post, or put @paddy-stone if you want me to respond to you.

If you can't get to the safe boot menu from Startup, once windows launches open the start menu, and enter "msconfig" and launch the System Configuration, enter the "Boot" tab, check "Safe Boot" and "Networking", reboot your computer, and it will enter into safe mode with networking. Just remember when doing it this way, you will need to go back uncheck the safe "Safe Boot" option after you are done, or your computer will stay in safe mode.

Chances are you probably have some security software on your computer, this will prove it if it is the case.
