why seagate have a high failure rate on thier hdds while WD not ?

I have 2 western digital blacks 1 WD green with 9k hours and WD blue

all of them are fine and healthy

 

while I have a Seagate drive in my other pc with 100s of write errors

what's wrong with Seagate ?

Depends on the article, theres one side saying WD and one side saying Seagate.

 

I've had shitty experiences with both so i don't really have a opinion on their failure rate.

Nothing is wrong with Seagate. Their failure rates are not significantly higher than WD's failure rates, or at least there's no reliable evidence that suggests so. 

 

The drives you're comparing are in different PCs, so it's really not a fair comparison. It could well be the PC that's causing the write errors, not the drive.

Neither company fails more than the other, to be honest. Just like with any other product, it comes down to chance.

Everyone has their own experiences... there's nothing that implies that one company is significantly better than the other.

 

The only Seagate product that I believe has questionable reliability is their 3TB Barracuda drive.

The old Barracudas (3TB+) used 500GB double-sided platters which is what caused the issues.

Indeed, everyone has their ow experiences. I personally have never had a Hatachi drive fail for example (going all the way back to 40GB ATA100 days), but have had Western Digital Blues, Seagate Barracudas, and Toshiba drives fail many times. Though given most of these are Laptop drives. 

 

Any drive will fail eventually, no matter the brand. Just keep a backup, or most preferably, redundant backup with at least one offsite.

I've never had issues with any drives besides WD.  But over the past few years I've actually only bought Seagate drives as they're much cheaper. I think its really luck of the draw.

As others have said; it's luck of the draw. On average Seagate and WD have comparable failure rates. When average RMA rates are about 1-2% for most products for both brands, it's really just a lottery.

Seagate did get a bad rep due to the backblaze articles, but those were a load of crap methodologically.

really it depends on the person and their luck. in my case, i've had 5 wd drives die on me, but i have yet to have 1 seagate drive die on me (does maxtor count? because it was partially owned by seagate before they went bust)
