Best tools for GPU OC testing?

Ekst4zy

Hi,

I used MSI Afterburner as my overclocking and monitoring tool.

3Dmark Firestrike and Heaven Benchmark 4.0 as my stress test tools.

I OC my 780ti to 1215Mhz on clock and 7800Mhz on memory. I tested my GPU for at least 2h for stability. My GPU was around 80-83 C, which is apparently normal ( not overclocked was hitting 80 at times).

I was happy with the results (free performance!), but after an hour of playing BF4 my game just crashed. I downclocked it to 1206/7700 and made my fan curve a bit more aggressive. Tested again, no crashes and temps never even hit 80 C.

But two days later in BF4 after like 1.5h of gaming my game crashed again. Since then I'm on stock. I didn't have enough time to play BF4 again for that long to check if it will crash and to be honest it's pretty frustrating to play and just wait for it to crash.

Any ideas how I can test it with a synthetic benchmark? I would really prefer to leave my PC running and testing by it self.

Thanks!

Some games just don't play well with overclocks so you have to find out what works for work game. I can play Doom at 1500mhz on the core of my 980 Ti but only 1420mhz in BF1.

I use Unigine Valley and the SteamVR test.

It passed SteamVR test without any issues and Valley is less stressful for GPU than Heaven (From what I heard).

Thanks for your input tho! ;)

Depends on the settings m8. Heaven is just a new and improved version, which probably means more accuracy. You could check out Aida64 or MSI Kombustor though

Heaven was on extreme. I don't know what SteamVR was (I didn't know that you can change settings). MSI Kombustor was not pushing my card enough? it was on 99-100% usage, but my card boosted to 1071 (stock boost) instead of 1215.

The maximum boost isn't really a load problem in that case, especially if you're getting 99-100% usage, it's a temperature problem. Means it was probably a little harder to run, which made it get hotter and thus hit its voltage/thermal limit earlier

Yea, but my temps were fine... 75 C is not really pushing GTX 780 Ti DCII  to it's limits, I think?

I think MSI Kombustor is based on Furmark. Which put extreme load on GPU. Some people even advice against using it, because the load is unrealistic.
