Unlikely that he'll want to do that. He'll either lose way too much money, or pass that cost on to you, increasing your cost.

He isn't local, and we're talking USD. I'm probably unlikely to not go through eBay, and I'm 100% willing to cover costs/shipping considering the amazing deal I'm getting.

He's from New York based on the 718 number he texted me from. I'm in Washington.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

I would leave it, yes it might be a good deal but tbh if you would sell the cards for that price you don't need to contact someone personally.

If he would place an ad of them for that price they should be sold instantly.

Sooo... Just ignore it :D

You'd be looking at $300 for the 980Ti. Not bad, but I've seen better deals go through the Reddit Hardwareswap.

i wouldnt trust any photos or screenshots
it would have to be video of the guy installing the gpu, connecting a monitor to that gpu and then proving that its a working card.
but i highly doubt i could ever convince someone to put in that much work

I used eBay's fee calculator. I'd be looking at $240-$250 not $300.

If you've seen better deals, does this mean it's not that sketchy?

Even if you do a live stream skype chat call or whatever to prove that the gpu is working people can still swap for some broken/fake ones. You need to see in person imo

Yeah that's what I was thinking as well. However if he's too lazy should I call it off or can I dispute it via eBay in the case it's broken?

Did you add the $20 for shipping? I got $250 + $20 + $27. I'm not sure if that even includes the percentage Paypal takes.

I'd just pay with Paypal. As long as you're not just sending him the cash as a gift and it's for a service you're covered.

I've done business this way for over a decade, selling well over $100,000 worth of merchandise.

I am just being cautios cause I have seen people getting scammed on ebay. But will it be possible for someone to let's say ship a different gpu instead?

I generally find only fools get scammed on eBay. There are usually warning signs and most people choose to ignore them because "the deal was too good!".

They could. Then you call Paypal, tell them what happened and at worst you'll have to pay to ship the GPU back to the seller.

People get lazy. They only email the seller, or simply open a claim with Paypal online. Picking up the phone is more direct, gets you in contact with an actual person, and is dead simple.

I've had bad experiences with PayPal, they sided with a fraudster. But he was the buyer in that case (using stolen PayPal accounts) so it only proves their buyer protection. I'm definitely going to go with PayPal.

The stolen accounts had their access regained and so all his purchases were charge backed. Would not have been the same outcome if he used prepaid cards.

It's not perfect by any means (I've been burned too) but it's by far the safest way to do online transactions.

Again though, just use your head. It's usually pretty easy to spot someone who's insincere if you take the time to look.

Enjoy you new card! Hopefully I find a decent deal when I start looking.
