When playing BF1 I get lag spikes and I'm wondering what I upgrade to get my fps higher with a low cost. Im running BF1 at 2560x1080.

I have an

GTX 950 Evga SC

AMD Athlon x4 845

Gigabyte GA-F2A68HM-H

with 8gb of 1600 ram.

Im wondering if i need a better CPU or a better GPU and what would fit my system best? (amd cpu cause they are cheap :p)

You do need a better CPU, but an AMD one is not going to cut it.

I would recommend a new CPU, motherboard and RAM, with the i5 6500.

I have nothing against AMD, but currently they do not have anything that can actually go up against intel.

Go for one of the asrock pro4/hyper boards as they can oc the non k series cpus. Id suggest the Arock B150M Pro4/Hyper and an i5 6500. Overclock it to 4.4ghz and be happy ? Youd still prolly want a better gpu at some point.

time to lower your resolution and settings then.  BF1 isn't really a very easy game to run.

how would you go about doing that on a locked chip? bclk on skylake has been locked for a while unless you can find one of the old bios

The latest BIOS updates for some of the company's Z170 motherboards explicitly confirm that ASRock is removing the feature from its firmware. The beta BIOSes that included SkyOC in the first place have been scrubbed from the company's site, along with the announcement page for the feature.

if youre lucky, you might be able to find a board still with the old bios or flash it yourself.

you need a new CPU and GPU. What i would suggest is to do one of two things;
A - Hold on for ZEN in feburary 2017 and get a GTX 1060 6GB (never buy the 3GB one) or RX 480 now.

OR

B - Get a i5 6600k (dont waste your time and money on a locked I5, just get the overclockable one right away rather then wait and spend more on a overclockable i5 later on). A Z170 board and a RX 480 or GTX 1060 6GB. Then overclock that i5 to 4.2-4.5GHz. Then you should see no more performance issues (for a while).

Save for a couple more months until you have ~$300 then grab an i5 (6500 or 7500 if it's out then/cheap enough) with a new mobo and some DDR4. (Even better if you save ~$400 for an i5-6500k + mobo/RAM)

Then start saving up for a new GPU.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

Yeah like I said a rumour.  Asrock removing a feature that allows you to do it in Windows does not mean you can't do it any more,  you can even still get sky oc now.

Lag spikes are network related, is it in the multiplayer parts that are having issues?

If it is single player check your cpu/gpu usages.
