6700K vs 6800K

I know that it would help me a lot if I delided CPU.

But I'm scared about that xD

It's 380€ worth CPU and if I somehow destroy it, it's value will go to 0€ and I simply don't want that to happen.

I saw way too many delidings go wrong and it just pains me to look at other people's photos of destroyed CPUs. Not to mention warranty void if that CPU decides to die for unknown reason.

May I ask how did you delid your CPU? With razor or with that method where you hit it with a hammer from the side?

First one I did was a G3258, razor method, second was a 4790k, razor method, third was my 6700k, with a 3D printed delid tool.

And have you ever had any problems with delidding?

How much did temp drop on your i7 4790k if you maybe recall?

Can't remember on the 4790k, but judging by others results it should be like 20c with CLU.

On my 6700k I went from needing 1.46v to run XTU benchmark at 5 ghz and hitting dam near 100c, to being able to run 24/7 5 ghz stable at 70c in prime95, I'm sure XTU benchmark will run 5 ghz now at 65-70c with ~1.415v or so.  The colder you get your parts the less voltage you'll need to maintain the same clocks or even higher clocks.  YMMV though.

Yeah around what I expected :)

Most users who successfully delidded i7 4790k got 15-20°C temp drop. Depending on TIM they used.

But there are still a lot of users who destroyed their CPU by trying to delid it.

And that 80-85°C is only during stress testing with FPU or cache.

In real life usage it almost never hits higher than 75°C. And that was after several hours of movie maker editor pushing CPU to 100% load.

So I rather see that my CPU hits 75°C or even 80°C from time to time, rather than a chanche to destroy my CPU.

Eeeey Guys,

I don't really know what Processor I should get....

(I already own a 1080 Founders)

Should I go for the 6700K/7700K or the 6800K

My Rig will primerally be for Gaming (and CS:GO-ish 3D Rendering, 4K Photo and 2K Video Editing as a Hobby)

And if I should get the X99 Platform, should I go with the 6800K or 6850K (I guess the 6800K, cuz 3-Way SLI Doesn't work (for most Games))

With a 6800k you will get better experience when playing battlefield 1.

Unlike me, my i5-4670 is at 100% CPU usage when I play battlefield 1 with my GTX 1060 6gb T_T, I have the same dillema as you do and I'm waiting for zen or kaby-lake to drop in 2017, till then I will just have to play with frame drops and a lot of screen tearing T_T.

Kaby-Lake should come out before 2017 and I have the possibility to wait.\

Thus I have a small dillema, to wait for the 7700K or buy the 6800K or 6700K

All I can say is to wait for benchmarks and maybe that will solve your little dilemma.
