Hi guys. I've been using my current PC for about 5-6 months now and just recently started to face a Restart problem with Far Cry 3. I've been gaming without a hitch these past few months but this problem suddenly popped up and I have no idea about the reason behind it. This happens exclusively when I start Far Cry 3. The screen goes black and my pc restarts. Also if i run the benchmark within Tomb Raider the same thing happens. I have Splinter Cell Blacklist and Fifa 14 installed on my system as well and they seem to be running without a hitch.

My Specs are ::

Core i5-3470 Quad 3.2GHz

Radeon HD 7850 Sapphire OC Edition

8 GB DDR3 1333MHz

GigaByte GA-H77-DS3H

Gigabyte Superb E620 GE-E620A-C3 620W

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

I've not overclocked anything and my temps seem to be within the norm. (Cpu: 55-65c and Gpu:55-60c when gaming).

Any kind of help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What PSU are you using? It sounds like it is a power problem.

Edit: I now see that you have listed the PSU (Didn't know Gigabyte carried PSUs). Try checking all the internal connectors to see of they are making prober contact

will do.

Gigabyte makes PSUs?!?!? WTF

apparently yes  :P

i just want to make sure nothing else could be the problem before i go for a new PSU. Because this seems to be caused by a single game  :(

Welcome to the forums, but i digress. Have you gone in the game file and tried to change the settings to low and see what happens? (i would look up how to do it before you mess up the files on accident :P )

And can you play The Tomb Raider Singleplayer?

Tomb Raider single player runs just fine on the preset High settings. AS for Far Cry 3 I cant even get into the game to change settings and there is no launcher to do it externally. And while running Furmark Burn In Benchmark @1080p the pc shutdown at around 75% when the GPU was @74c. I dont know if that's normal or not. Have tried reinstalling Far Cry 3. Still no luck  :(. Really want to play this game as I've heard only good things about it.

OKAY!!! I should not have said the problem is exclusive to Far Cry 3 because my PC just restarted while playing FIFA14. I also checked Blacklist, same problem there. When I dont run games, its fine. The problem seems to be spreading to all of my games :(.

Get a new PSU......to me it seems that its dying

AND DON'T GET A GIGABYTE PSU

get a corsair PSU...like the rm series, if you can afford it  :D . If not....just about any corsair PSU is fine

Change out the PSU. It's probably dying.

Hi,

..well it also can be the MB it self, with those temps, is throttle down evrything or it just shut down. Had the same problem on few rigs,, cpu temps over 70 + gpu 70+ is not good, the PCB gets rly rly hot.. and let's not forget that RAM's after 6 hours they lose power and performance if they are oc'd too .. Try and better aircool your case or reduce the oc if is so.

Intel CPUs and GPUs in general can hit over 100 degree C before either blue screening or throttling. Also, what are you talking about with your RAM comment? Makes no sense.

Well it seems to be the case. And the RM series is currently not within my budget :P. Will Corsair CX 600W V2 or Thermaltake ToughPowerST 650W be a good replacement? These are currently available in my area and withing my budget

I have not overclocked any components and I thought 60c while gaming is decent for an aircooled case  . I might be wrong as I dont have much knowledge about this. The 74c temp was when running furmark test for around 10mins.

If is an instant restart (after starting a game), it is most likely driverm OS or PSU (as meny syggested) problem.

However, if is random restart, it can be all of those things above, but it also can be a dust problem.

Few days ago, friend called me because her PC is restarting, temperatures seem'd fine at first look, monitoring, all well, however, when i opened the case, it was full of dust (after not so much time, maybe a year+). Careful cleaning with comressor (on;y with air), sovled problem,a nd everything works fine now, it was intel Pentium SB PC (similar platfomr as you have). It might be that, but you wll clearly see dust on  CPU heatsink etc.

First try driver and OS reinstall. Tho, OS can be tricky, especially if you want to save configuration, programs work etc...

This happens only when I am starting a game or in a game and its instant restart. Will try to clean the case tomorrow and also do a fresh OS install. Im desperately hoping that this might solve my problem  . I really dont want to spend money on a PSU unless its absolutely necessary as I am saving up for a SSD  .

Well PSU isn't really gaming/higher-end oriented. Gigabyte site notes that its for office & home use (browsing generally). It should be enough, but sadly it has early 80Plus cert meaning it brings just over 80% power effiency. Try running OCCT either for cpu or to PSU (I haven't tried that myselft but there's option for it).

And nothing wrong with Thermaltake PSU. I got Thoughtpower XT 675W. Just make sure it has 80Plus bronze at minimum.

To be honest it was my mistake skimping out on the PSU when I should have shelled out a bit more cash and bought a decent one. This time round I've decided to do it right and get a Corsair HX650W. Hopefully this will last longer.

I really hope that this fixes your issues, and keeps people from skimping out on PSUs
