No, AMD's current processors wouldn't be a smart buy when you're planning to use your PC for the long term. AM3+ is a dead socket and has been for the past 3 years. If you're going AMD, better start stacking your chips on Zen.

Depends on your usage. I recently built an FX-6300 machine for some light to moderate gaming and development/programming. I also run VM's quite often so the higher core count helps out there when compared to a similarly priced Intel machine (i3 at best). I'd wait until both Intel and AMD release the new products if you want it for higher-end gaming, you may see the prices of current hardware go down, or at least end up bundled with other parts at a decent discounted price.

It's not starting a flame war, he's asking which brand has the best CPUs.

To answer the question, if you want AMD wait for Zen. Of the current offerings Intel is best when you aren't on a budget and don't do production.

The question of 'which brand has the best CPUs/GPUs' is what especially sparks up a flamewar. Even if OP's intentions remained innocent, it's still against the CS.
