PSU trips electric...

Hi,

 

I have a EVGA Supernova G2 1300watt PSU and when cycled on and off to bleed my water cooling loop it trips the electrics everytime I didn't think much off it and grabbed a cheap £10 CIT 600watt PSU to use when I bleed the air out of my loop however I have been having a problem where the PC sometimes goes off straight after posting this is usually cold boot only hasn't happened on a restart my friend seems to think I have a faulty power supply that is getting shorted out by something or something along those lines what do you guys think I don't really have access to another psu that can supply enough power to my SLI PC to test out a different PSU.

You don't need a 1300W PSU for titan X sli.

I was going to get 1000watt but because of my cpu and overclocking my cpu others on the forum recommended I got a bigger one.  Mine are Maxwell Titan X's also so not quite as power efficient as Pascal cards

Try using the PC at another house, maybe it;s just your old house with bad wiring.

It could be that but my house isn't that old so I wouldn't have thought it would be that (1980's I believe it was built) But I could try take the PC to a relatives to try it.

Given the average US/Canadian code requirements your average house has a 15 amp circuit breaker feeding each room. Ideally it would be one for lights and one for outlets but that is usually not the case. 

Your PSU at full tilt likely draws about 10A to 11A (1300W ÷ 120V), so if you have speakers and a monitor (plus extras) plugged in too that will likely overwhelm a 15A breaker. If you are on 240V it changes things quite a bit.

 

(This assumes your PSU is maxed out, which it likely is not. Therefore it is realistically pulling about half the amperage, likely close to 6A.)

Turned out to be a dodgy socket on the wall had the socket replaced and re-wired works fine now :)
