Choosing a CPU for gaming purpose!

I currently own a GB H61M mobo (LGA 1155 socket, as you know). My current CPU is an i3-2120 which is damn weak and definitely not for current gaming. Now, I don't have enough funding for a new mobo and CPU, so I decided to get a 2nd or 3rd gen used CPU.

My choices are :

i7-3770 (Around $200 in my country)

i7-2600 (Around $150 in my country)

i5-3570 (Around $140 in my country)

My budget is at best $180 or so. So, what'd be the best CPU among these (or others) to properly utilize my GPU which is a R9 390 currently getting highly bottlenecked by my i3-2120

i7-3770k @ 4.5 GHz

Asrock Z77 Extreme4

16GB DDR3 Corsair Ballistix RGB

Zotac 1070 Amp Extreme

1TB Western Digital

128GB ADATA SU800

630W Thermaltake Smart SE

the i7 2600 most likely

3770 has a lower TDP if your motherboard is on the lower end, overall performance of the 2 should be pretty close

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

But would the 2600 be futureproof ? Would it be enough for the upcoming games?

Between the choices you listed, the i7 2600 is much better than the i5 3570 but only $10 difference in price. The i7 2600 is about the same performance as the i7 3770; maybe falling behind by like 3-5% but is $50(25%) cheaper.

If you look at the comparison of the two at the above link(those are unlocked cpus but same models, you'll see that in games the performance is almost identical, usually 1 frame difference in modern games. So if the 2600 becomes significant a bottleneck in the future, then the i7 3770 will be too. IMO the among those options, the 2600k is the best choice.

Futureproofing is never really a thing

it'll be fine, they're pretty similar performance wise, in any case you'd want the 8 threads compared to the 4 of an i5

games only ever usually become less CPU bound, the newer APIs should have with that as well as making it easier to use more threads.

3770K with the K preferably so you can overclock the Sh!T out of it :)

If it it 2600k vs 3770 : 2600k

if it is 2600 vs 3770 : 3770

if it is 3770k vs 2600 : 3770k

if it is 2600k vs 3770k: 3770k

honestly you should probably only be interested in the i7 because you're running a 390, those love the extra power/threads that i7s provide.
